“Not only I’m being hit with a disease, that I have cancer, now you take my job too away from me?”, said Elisa Madonia, a Chicago-area woman, after learning that she was fired.
Diagnosed with esophageal cancer in October, Elisa began seeking treatment and needed time off from her job. Her doctors sent her employer a letter, stating that she would need one day off a week for a couple of weeks, and then multiple days off from December until February.
