Actos
The diabetes drug Actos (also marketed as Actoplus and Duatect) has been found to cause cancer in long-term users. Banned in several other countries, Actos has been prescribed to millions of patients in the US over the past 15+ years despite its serious safety issues. A warning label was not placed on Actos until 2011, and a federal jury has found that its maker, Takeda manufactured and sold an unsafe product despite knowing the risks.
Asbestos
Asbestos has long been used in various industries, including mining, manufacturing and constructing. Asbestos have been found to cause mesothelioma, a deadly cancer. Mesothelioma has a latency period of between 20 and 50 years, meaning workers exposed to asbestos in past decades may just be suffering the effects of mesothelioma now. GM Ignition Switch Recall
In 2014, General Motors (GM) issued a recall of 8.4 million automobiles due to a defect with the ignition switch that turned off the vehicles, disabled the airbags and power steering, and caused drivers to unexpectedly lose control. This defect from GM has led to serious injuries and death and their own investigation found “a pattern of incompetence and neglect” throughout the company.
Honda Airbag Recall
Over the past 8 years, 5.4 million Hondas have been recalled due to defective airbags manufactured by Takata. Some of those airbags, which contain metal shards, can explode unexpectedly and have resulted in hundreds of injuries and at least six deaths. Only a small minority of affected owners have responded to the recall, but drivers, passengers, families, and other drivers involved in accidents with a defective airbag may have a claim for their injuries.
Mirena IUD Cases
Mirena is an intrauterine device (IUD) used for birth control and to control heavy menstrual bleeding. As of today, 47,000 patients report adverse effects from use of Mirena and 6% of them have required hospitalization or surgery. These side effects include damage and infection to internal organs, miscarriage, premature delivery, sepsis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and Pseudotumor Cerebri, a condition causing massive migraine-like headaches.
Sygenta Corn Lawsuit
Swiss company Sygenta marketed a GMO corn product called Viptera to corn farmers throughout the US beginning in 2009. Viptera has caused immense financial damage to farmers due to the fact that China had not approved Viptera and thus rejected all corn shipments containing Viptera. Syngenta misled American farmers about the timeline for regulatory approval and misinformed members of the corn industry that approval from China was soon forthcoming and that lack of approval would have no impact on sale of Viptera.
Testosterone Supplement Cases
Pharmaceutical companies have consistently marketed testosterone supplements in the form of patches, gels, and injections as a way to reverse the natural signs of aging and in the process have unnecessarily exposed men to serious health risks such as strokes, heart attacks, blood clots in the lungs and veins, and even death. These risks were not disclosed to men, resulting in widespread misuse and serious physical complications. Men injured by testosterone supplements may be able to pursue damages for their injuries.
Zofran
Zofran is a drug manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline and used for the nausea symptoms associated with cancer treatment, or surgery. Many pregnant women were prescribed Zofran to deal with morning sickness despite it not being approved for such use. Between 1992 and today there have been over 200 reports of birth defects in children exposed to Zofran in utero. Despite this knowledge, GlaxoSmithKline manufactured and marketed an unsafe product to pregnant women.
